Baptisms & Weddings

Baptisms

Parents will be asked to come to a Baptism preparation evening (held every other month) at which we explore the symbolism involved in the service of Baptism, discuss what it means to be Baptised, and book the date for your child's baptism.  Baptisms will take place within the usual morning service, ie. if on the 1st Sunday of the month at the 09:15am All Age service, if on other Sundays at 09:15 am Sung Eucharist.  Dates will be made at the discretion of the incumbent after consulting with parents.

Any enquiries for baptisms, please phone the Revd Ginni Dear,  Hitchin (01462) 237032

Weddings in St Ippolyts Church

A wedding is one of life’s great moments, a time of solemn commitment as well as good wishes, feasting and joy.

Marriage is intended by God to be a creative relationship, as his blessing enables husband and wife to love and support each other in good times and in bad, and to share in the care and upbringing of children. For Christians, marriage is also an invitation to share life together in the spirit of Jesus Christ.  It is based upon a solemn, public and life-long covenant between a man and a woman, declared and celebrated in the presence of God and before witnesses.

At St Ippolyts we are delighted when couples choose to have their wedding service in church.

The notes that follow may help you.

Anyone who lives in the Parish of St Ippolyts is entitled to have their wedding in St Ippolyts church providing a) they are unmarried (or widowed) or b) they have only been married once, are now divorced, and the present relationship was not a factor in the breakdown of the first.

If you do not live in the Parish but your name is on the church electoral roll then you are entitled to have your wedding service in St Ippolyts church.

If you have strong pastoral connections with the church in St Ippolyts but live outside the Parish you may still be able to be married in St Ippolyts church.

If you would like to be married in St Ippolyts church and have any questions please telephone the Jane Veasey, Churchwarden and Wedding Verger,  Hitchin (01462) 434254 or the Revd Ginni Dear, Hitchin (01462) 237032

All couples intending to marry are asked to attend two Marriage Preparation meetings, at these meetings we discuss your requirements for the wedding day, for example do you wish to have the bells rung etc, and we also explore a little about what makes a good marriage and why it is important to you that the wedding takes place in church.
