Visitors to the Horse Blessing Service

We had an e mail this week from Robert Halliday of Bury St Edmunds who had visited this years horse blessing service. He kindly sent some more photos which can be accessed via the following links   IMG_0667.JPG  IMG_0668.JPG  IMG_0669.JPG  IMG_0682.JPG  IMG_0686.JPG  IMG_0690.JPG  IMG_0691.JPG  IMG_0692.JPG  IMG_0693.JPG  IMG_0694.JPG  IMG_0695.JPG  IMG_0696.JPG  IMG_0697.JPG  IMG_0698.JPG  IMG_0699.JPG  IMG_0700.JPG  IMG_0701.JPG  IMG_0702.JPG  IMG_0703.JPG  IMG_0704.JPG  IMG_0705.JPG  IMG_0706.JPG  IMG_0707.JPG  IMG_0708.JPG  IMG_0709.JPG  IMG_0710.JPG  IMG_0711.JPG

Robert wrote -

"It was good to be able to come to the horse blessing service this month.  I had enjoyed previous services, and I think this year had the biggest turn-out of horses (and riders) and congregation yet.  Congtarulations to the Rev. Ginni for taking this on so soon into her ministry, and many congratulations for overcoming her nervousness with horses to perform the blessing.  It was brilliant that she was able to take the task in hand and approach the horses, despite her nerves.  The Rev. Ginni 'came through like a trooper' (to use a hackneyed expression) and certainly performed the blessing as if she had been doing it all her life.  I was impressed and I am sure that everybody else was impressed too.  It was a very good start to her ministry which I am sure will be a big success."

Robert had visited previous horse blessing services conducted by Revd Ann and he managed to make videos of the proceedings. These can be seen on :-

Horse Blessing Service

We had a splendid turn out for our 2016 St Ippolyts Church Horse Blessing Servive with 14 horses and riders coming to church for the service. Well not exactly in the church! Everyone congregated on the grass near the war memorial. Joining the horses were over thirty spectators all who helped to make it such an enjoyable service.

The Revd Ginni started by tell everyone of her fear of horses, but it was very clear that she soon overcame any worries as she patting and stoking each of the beautiful creatures as she blessed them all. A short reading was followed by 'All things bright and beautiful' and prayers.

A collection was taken at the end of the short service and the generous contributions from everyone mad it possible for us to send £110 to the Stevenage and District riding for trhe disabled.

This is such a wonderful event, look out for the 2017 service.

The Jubilate Choir with John Edwards"seduces our souls".

IMG 0415 The Concert

The Jubilate choir directed by John Edwards gave a wonderful performance entitled 'Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord" last night ,Wednesday 21st July.

An audience of over 40 enjoyed a wonderful illustrated guide to the English Church anthems which stretched from the work of Thomas Tallis in the 16th Century right through to modern works by Alan Bullard and John Rutter.

John gave a informative story of the development of church music through the ages starting from the split of the Christian church into the Western and Eastern parts in the eleventh century. The choir sang extracts from 13 different anthems and it was clear from the quality of their singing that a great deal of work had gone into making the evening such a success.

Michael Hooper, Churchwarden, thanked John and the Jubilate Choir for their joyous performance and quoting part of John Edwards talk he said that the choir had seduced the souls of the listeners.

A few photos of the evening can be found in the gallery

We have a New Vicar - Hurrah and Alleluia!!

IMG 6454 Ginni Dear and Michael BeasleyOn the evening of Monday 11th July 2016 our new vicar the Revd Ginni Dear was Instituted by the Bishop of Hertford the Rt Revd Dr Michael Beasley and Installed and Inducted by our Rural Dean the Revd Dr Jane Mainwaring.

In a packed church the congregation, Ginni's family and guests enjoyed a joyous service of celebration as Ginni became part of our Benefice family.

The five Benefice Churchwardens led Ginni to the Bishop and presented her for institution. The Revd Jo Loveridge from All Saints Hertford recommended her to us and added it was a sad day for Ginni to be leaving All Saints.

The service included a reading by Howell Davies and special welcomes from parishioners from within the Benefice.

An Act of Commitment by the Incumbement and People saw presentations and statements from Rosemary Stratton, Pat Fry, Roger Cox, Jennifer Veasey, Anne Swift and Cherry Carter.

The prayers of dedication and intercession were led by Ginni assisted by Anne Steel, Mike Davies and Louise Conway.

Overall it was a splendid evening of welcome and it was topped by a wonderful spread of food in the St ippolyts School Hall.

Everyone agreed it was a memorable occasion. Now now look forward to Ginni joining us permanently on 2nd August.
