Open Gardens, a brilliant day!!

150624 Open gardens Poster heading

What a wonderful day. The Church fund raising committee led by Barbara Thomas organised a splendid day of open gardens in the Parish and several hundred visitors enjoyed some truly spectacular gardens. A special thank you to all those who volunteered to show us their lovely horticultural creations, without their willingness to open up their gardens we would not have had such a special day. The weather, in spite of a rainy forecast , was very kind to us.

Early in the morning an army of volunteers were erecting signs (well Andrew Russell was!), preparing a bar b que, preparing the Parish hall, making sandwiches, delivering home made cakes, setting up stalls  to sell tickets, stalls to sell plants (Lynda Garner), stalls to sell handmade greetings cards (Jo Cooper together with Pauline and Alan Hinks), or generally preparing themselves to help out wherever needed. A very big thank you all those who mucked in and  gave a hand.

Before noon, opening time for the gardens, there were eager visitors parking their cars and buying tickets. All through the afternoon there was a stream of people wandering through our community seeking out the gardens. Many called into the Parish Hall for tea and cake or a sandwich. There were still visitors enjoying their afternoon at 6 o'clock in the evening as all the helpers started to close up and pack things away.

Throughout the day raffle tickets were sold. This raffle had been organised by Carolyn Marsh and we had prizes from very generous people and businesses within our community, thank you to all of them. At quarter past five Revd Ann drew the lucky tickets.

If you enjoyed this wonderful day look out for our flower festival next year!!
